By now you should be doing some intervals during your walk – incorporating periods of faster walking with periods of slower walking (your normal pace).  This month, make your “rest periods” 30 seconds instead of a minute.  This means you will walk faster for 1 minute and then slow down for 30 seconds.  If you can, you can try a jog during your minute work period and then make your rest interval a fast walk.  Try it a few times for that extra kick up of your metabolism.  Also try to incorporate some hills into your route, if you haven’t already and you can.  These will naturally provide a more intense interval period as well.  Cool down the last 5 minutes of your walk.

Remember, all this hard work won’t give you the payoff unless you are also watching what and how you are eating.
